Pa did not like a country so old and worn out that the hunting was poor.
He wanted to go west. For two years he had wanted to go west and take a homestead,
but Ma did not want to leave the settled country.

Sometimes you're lucky and stumble upon on something
really good-
like this beautiful log barn from yesteryear
surrounded by gems as the old farm truck and beautiful John Deere tractor
this was certainly a fun surprise
off a dirt road
off a dirt road
in the back country
on a Sunday afternoon
on a Sunday afternoon

A farmer travelling with his load Picked up a horseshoe on the road,
And nailed if fast to his barn door,
That luck might down upon him pour; That every blessing
known in life Might crown his homestead and his wife,
And never any kind of harm Descend upon his growing farm.

What a find. My hubby always takes the dirt roads when he is out and about, and always comes home with amazing stories about what he found.
ReplyDeleteLovely images.
We love to stumble across old home sites from yesteryear. Wouldn't it be fun to renovate that log cabin? Hey, I even have John Deere parts here [it's the brand of tractors we use] so we could fix the tractor too! ;)

ReplyDeleteSuch a find! Wow, I really love that first photo of the Deere in the grasses...really makes you think...all those who've come before...you have such an eye, Camilla, a beautiful photo essay. We are watching old episodes of Little House on the Prairie (tv show) as a family right now. My eldest daughter enjoyed these photos immensely, too.
