We love scaffolding- its become a sculpture in our living room
(notice Lillys doggy bone?)
living in this house with 4 kids over 10 years has taken its toll on the floors, the kitchen and me.
and with our big family- we need more space!
Here's the heart of our home the kitchen
the wall between the kitchen and the dining room is knocked down to let more natural light in
2 solar tubes in the ceiling being installed
letting more natural light
and it s wonderful!

this BEAUTIFUL Star Trek mother board island
is being removed for a rectangular one.

the stove and the fridge are our saving grace as we
live "camping" style
live "camping" style
It's hard with all the construction workers in and out,
on the roof,
in the kitchen
on the roof,
in the kitchen
noise and dust everywhere.
Especially for a homebody like me.
I know once finished I will be able to Disco Dance on my granite countertops in sheer joy!
a new knitting project to keep my mind off the noise in the kitchen and cope with the stress.
In the mean time I hide upstairs in my studio and drink Tea in the only mug I could find
- everything is in boxes
So I "speak the truth"...remodeling is stressful
but it has to be done
because in our families case
the kitchen is where the heart is
Now it may be stressful but the end project is going to be fantastic!! We did ours last year, like you, after being in our house 10 years! It was the best thing that we ever did, the space is wonderful. I love the look of your knitting project. x
ReplyDeleteThe kitchen is the heart of our home too but it has to be right doesn't it? I hope all the noise, dust and interruption gives your home the perfect heart :)
ReplyDeleteyou are the bravest woman i know at the moment.....is there an end in sight? even a glimmer?
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to have a big kitchen!
ReplyDeleteWe also have a large kitchen ;)
Good luck !!! xo
I do hope the construction will be over soon, but the extra room and natural light will certainly be worth the wait!
ReplyDeletewow... all that light and openness is fantastic!!! I think my whole house could fit into your kitchen alone (sigh...) I'm glad you have a little hiding place to knit and drink your tea during all the excitement.
ReplyDeletewow, your house has good good bones! love the light and the vertical space. I hope you show more of your progress.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that is a huge reno. Always tough going through them, but oh so worth it in the end :)
ReplyDeleteWow exciting though. I've been there it will totally be worth it in the end. I can't wait to see it finished, I think it's going to look amazing!
ReplyDeleteHoly Schmokes.. One thing about you: diving in with both feet. No messing around. I love that!! It will be so worth it in the end. Funny, I've been dreaming of making some kitchen changes too. Must be a 10 year itch : )
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you Camilla, and I hope you post photos when it is complete. I feel for you living in a construction zone and am glad you have knitting and wooly fibers to keep you sane.
ReplyDeleteIt will be ok...and you'll love it! We did a kitchen reno about 8 years ago. The house we could afford didn't come with much of a kitchen so we completely redid it. We are very fortunate that our family has a few handy guys. So labour costs were nothing, but, it did take much longer than if we had went with a contractor. A few months without a kitchen, or a half working kitchen is terrible...but, it is worth it in the end. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteWe need to do a reno, too, but I just don't know how to go about it working full-time outside of the house and having animals that need to be protected. Indoor animals need to stay in and outdoor animals need to stay out. I think we can't really do it until I'm retired and can be home while it's going on...I'm sure your reno will be beautiful and, once it's done, all the stress will fall away.
